This is for you
Yes my Mother-in-law and Father-in-law arrive on Tuesday, for an entire month. Most people would probably be freaking right out about it… but not Rumour. The Rumour Mill Headquarters are looking forward to our guests.
I’m. Not. Lying.
My in-laws are very generous and caring people and I completely lucked out when I landed them as in-laws. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes they do things that irritate me or make me roll my eyes but I really have no complaints about them. It is because they live so far away that our visits are often weeks and months at a time.
The last time that they were both here together was for three months (yes that’s right, it isn’t a typo…. 3 months) over Christmas in 2005. Craig had his hip replacement, I was pregnant and tired and they came out to help us. And help they do…
MIL cooks, cleans and does our laundry. Unless we specifically make a point of telling her NOT to cook tonight, she cooks. She bakes. She does so much. Guaranteed that once every few days she will say, “Nicole I am going to do some laundry so set yours out and I will do it for you. No need doing two different loads as FIL and I don’t have that much.”
The only time I ever took issue with her doing my laundry was when I walked into her living room to find all of my bras hanging all over the place… because she didn’t want to ruin them by putting them in the dryer. I was mortified… Craig and I were still dating and this was like my second visit out there. My FIL was sitting in the living room amongst my bras.
My FIL is much the same. He sets the table, vacuums, he does our Honey-Do Lists, and helps Craig with all the little projects that need to be done.
So I look forward to their arrival and to them getting re-aquainted with Piper. I look forward to the home cooked meals (that I am not cooking), the extra rest and all the familyness that comes with their visits.
And, of course, I look forward to having my home back to myself when they leave.
I am one of the few, very lucky ones, who has a wonderful relationship with her in-laws.
