Month 26 – Letter to Piper

Dearest Piper ~

We had a good scare this past month that
had us running you off to the Emergency
Room. Not fun, so let’s never do that
again…. okay?

You and Guinness were playing and chasing
eachother when he knocked you into the
window frame. My heart jumped and I never
moved faster in all my life. On our drive
to the hospital (which was only about 15
minutes but felt like hours), I just kept
looking at you and trying “not” to imagine
anything bad ever happening to you. I would be
devastated, as any parent would be. There
has never been a doubt in my mind, that you
were completely and totally meant to be our
daughter and to come into our lives at the
precise moment that you did.

You seem to be understanding the concept of Mama
having a baby in her belly. You certainly know
what a baby is and you point out any baby that we
see. You are very interested in babies when we
are around them. Now when you talk about babies
you are either talking about your dolls or my belly.

You will often come over to me and ask for the baby.
This entails you lifting my shirt and pulling my pants
away from my belly so that you can kiss it, rub it
or blow on it and say “Hello Baby”. It warms my heart.
I think you are going to be a great big sister and I
cannot wait to watch you with your baby sister.

There are some moments when I lose sight, if only briefly,
of just how wonderful our life is together… those
moments get lost in the crazy, busy days, the clutter of
toys and pet hair. When Daddy and I are busy trying to
keep the house clean and the fridge stocked but you come
running out of your room yelling “Mama or Daddy Come” and you grab
our hand and off we go… to nothing in particular but
something very special. You pull us back to those moments
when we watch you laughing or enjoy your hugs and kisses, you
pull us back to our wonderful life together.

Mama loves you, Sweetest Pea.

Love Mommy.
