Not for the faint of heart…

At least not my heart. Last night, Piper got her hand caught in a treadmill. A motorized, running treadmill. I so felt like panic was going to take over but I knew that I had to stay calm. For her sake.

Craig had just been there, not seconds before. He was following Davilyn back up the stairs when it happened. I heard Piper scream out and I went to check. She was holding her right hand up and crying, hard. Then I heard one of the young boys say, “You shouldn’t put your hand in the machine, Piper.” and I was screaming inside, “WHAT MACHINE?” But I managed to remain calm.
I didn’t even know there was a treadmill in the basement. Something new that had arrived since the last time we visited.
Piper was hysterical. I don’t blame her. We got it wrapped and when we got her home, we wanted to clean it and see how it was looking. She was hysterical again. I was beside myself. Sick to my stomach.
We managed to clean it up and get it wrapped and she managed to sleep. She seemed in fine spirits this morning but when we took the dressing off, it looked so bad. Her wee little hand, with the skin torn back. Red. Hurting.
Craig took her to the ER and had a nurse and a Doctor take a look at it. Thankfully, she is fine. Nothing is broken and she will be okay. Thankfully.

OH MY!!! Well, I guess you can scratch "visit ER" off your list of things to do for 2010!!! I'm glad she's ok!

I know, right. She is doing fine. It will take a few days to really heal and for her to become comfortable enough to start using her hand again. But she is fine, thank goodness!
