How, Mommy?

Out of the blue today (while brushing her hair) Piper asked me how babies get out of a belly.

I thought I was in the clear when I reminded her about my c-section scar and how she and her sisters were born. I would show them when I first came home so they could see my “boo boo” and be very gentle with me. I still show them when we are showering or changing or if they are interested in seeing it.

Then she said, “Ya but how do OTHER babies get out of bellies?”

And for a second, I was without words. I wasn’t sure what to say, so I told her the truth. Her answer to me was “Why?” Then I told her that was how God made us…..

Then she said, “Who is God?”

I had no idea how to explain that to her since we do not attend church. However, at preschool they pray and do talk a bit about Jesus. This was my answer,

“Do you remember at preschool that you talk about Jesus and you thank him for your snack? (She answers yes). Well God is Jesus’ Daddy.”

Then she said, “Oh.” and walked away.
