Why won’t she sleep?

You are going to feel like I have hit the rewind button.  But I have not.  Long ago, you may recall that we tried to put Piper and Davilyn in the same bedroom.  We did.  It worked, until it didn’t.  So we ended up putting Davilyn back in her own room and setting Quinn’s crib up in ours.

This was working well.  Mostly because we would put Quinn to sleep in her bassinet in the living room.  She would sleep well there and through the night.  Of course her sleep went in patterns like most babies but she slept well for quite some time.  Then she was getting to heavy for the bassinet, and we started to transition her to her crib (in our room).  This worked… okay.  She would wake and fuss and we would swaddle her and re swaddle her.  Then she ended up in bed between us and we all slept.

So after our summer adventures, we decided to try doubling the big girls up again.  The first night was a dream.  In fact, they were actually excited to get to bed!  They even went right to sleep, did not wake up at all and slept until 7:00.  Dream I say!  The first week was grand.  They were awesome and we were so happy that Davilyn was finally ready to share a room.

I don’t know what has happened but after that first week, things went down hill again.  Davilyn is waking at various times through the night and starting her day by 6:00 a.m.  We are not 6:00 a.m. people.  My girls cannot function on 6:00 a.m. wake ups.  It’s been rough going.  Her naps are suffering and Piper’s sleep is suffering.  I am ready to throw in the towel and put Davilyn back in her own room.  Let Piper and Quinn share a room.  Despite Quinn being 6 months old, she is sleeping better than Davilyn is!  It is getting hard to function on little sleep and it is getting hard to deal with children who are functioning on little sleep.

Sleep is a hot commodity around here.  We have always enjoyed it and since having kids we have missed it.  Dearly.  It is the one thing that has been the hardest to adjust to as a Mom.  When sleep is lacking so are patience and frustrations are high.

Craig thinks it could take a month or two for Davilyn to really settle into sharing a room with Piper.  He is probably right.  I need to find the determination inside myself to deal with this as best I can while we all adjust.  I need to summon all of my patience and forge ahead.

It’s hard.  I’m tired.

I can't relate to this specifically. (Because our girls share a room, but Jo is our light sleeper and would love to keep Eleanor up all night. If Eleanor would have it. But she sleeps like a ton of bricks.) But, I feel for you. Sleep is the tops. Tell Davilyn I said so. :o)
