The Spirit of Giving

is what I love the most about the holiday season.  Which is one of the reasons that this time of the year was a great time for me to start introducing giveaways on my blog.  A venture that I hope will just keep getting  better.

I have many songs that I love to hear during this time of year.  From sentimental, heartfelt songs like Silent Night to the fun and excitement of Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

Here are a few songs that are looping through my iPod (and their Artist).  I hope that you will give them a try and then I will share the lyrics of my favourite song.

  1. Santa on the Rooftop – Trisha Yearwood
  2. I Have a Little Driedel – Barenaked Ladies
  3. Leroy The Redneck Reindeer – Joe Diffie

Take a Walk Through Bethlehem – Ray Vega

The city’s decorated up for Christmas
All the stores are open late tonight
People hurry through the frozen streets
I take a walk

Every child has a thousand wishes
Every window has a thousand lights
Every soul has a need for peace
I take a walk

There’s a star that still outshines the night
You can find it if you close your eyes
And see the light

Take a walk through Bethlehem
Come and kneel before the Lamb
Good news for every man
Walk though Bethlehem

Every night another tv special
Merchants counting down the shopping days
But something’s missing underneath the tree
I take a walk

‘Cause every heart longs for more than tinsel
Something more than just a holiday
Come and celebrate the baby King
Let’s take a walk

You don’t have to travel anywhere
Faith and hope and love will bring you there
Bring you there

Take a walk (take a walk) through Bethlehem
Come and kneel (come and kneel) before the Lamb
Good news for every man
Walk though Bethlehem

Take a walk (take a walk) through Bethlehem
Come and kneel (come and kneel) before the Lamb
Good news (good news) for every man
Walk though Bethlehem

Take a walk (take a walk) through Bethlehem
Come and kneel (come and kneel) before the Lamb
Good news for every man
Walk though Bethlehem

Take a walk (take a walk) through Bethlehem
Come and kneel (come and kneel) before the Lamb
Good news (good news) for every man
Walk though Bethlehem

Take a walk (take a walk) through Bethlehem
Come and kneel (come and kneel) before the Lamb
Good news (good news) for every man
Walk though Bethlehem

This evening, I wrote down all of your entries (Pam J. had the most since she both tweeted about my contest and mentioned it on her facebook! Thanks Pam.) and then I threw them all into a hat and let my oldest Diva pick the winner’s name……..

Congratulations to Denise T.

Please send me an email rumour(at)the-rumour-mill(dot)com with your mailing address and I will get this sent out to you tomorrow!  Then come back and let me know which, if any, of the songs I’ve mentioned here made your iTunes list.

just a bit of family trivia for you 🙂

Your Uncle Red’s all time favorite Christmas time tune

PRETTY PAPER
sung by Roby Orbison

Written by Roy Orbison – 1963
& Willie Nelson – 1979

Pretty paper, pretty ribbons of blue
Wrap your presents to your darling from you
Pretty pencils to write “I love you”
Pretty paper, pretty ribbons of blue

Crowded street, busy feet hustle by him
Downtown shoppers, Christmas is nigh
There he sits all alone on the sidewalk
Hoping that you won’t pass him by

Should you stop?, better not, much too busy
You’re in a hurry, my how time does fly
In the distance the ringing of laughter
And in the midst of the laughter he cries

Pretty paper, pretty ribbons of blue
Wrap your presents to your darling from you
Pretty pencils to write “I love you”
Pretty paper, pretty ribbons of blue

and if you happened to notice my comment on Trisha’s facepage about the homeless fella, Uncle Red says that every time he hears this song it still reminds him of “Beans”
