Potty training is the worst thing about parenthood. I’m sure of it. Davilyn is very resistant to it but she hates the idea of wearing a diaper or pull ups. “I don’t want to be baby.” I have been trying to potty train her for months. It feels more like years though.
She will pee on the potty but only if we insist on it. Tonight, for the first time ever, she asked me to take her to the bathroom while we were at a restaurant. I high fived her and almost did the potty dance right there in between the tables. Instead, I just kept telling her how proud I was of her. Thanking her for telling Mama that she needed to pee and then letting me take her to the bathroom. I was literally grovelling at her feet.
Man, has she played these cards right.
Tonight after we got home and finally got them all off to bed, she started complaining that her tummy hurt. This is how she rolls, folks. Her tummy hurts because she has been in underwear all day and has refused to go on the potty. So Daddy got her all set up in the bathroom and she sat there. And sat there. And she sat there some more.
So I tried encouraging her with my company. Then I offered up the iPad. So she sat there with me beside her and played the iPad. Then I remembered her love for nail polish. So I pulled some out and reminded her she could have some on her toes if she finished up. And she sat there. And sat there. And she sat there some more.
So I started painting my nails. And she loved it. She oohed and aaahhhhed and exclaimed, “So pretty, Mama. I want some.” But she just sat there. And sat there some more.
After about a half an hour, we were getting ready to throw in the towel and she said, “Wait til I’m done…. all done.” And we all started cheering and clapping! Woofriggenwho! I’ve been waiting months for this and my fingers are crossed that this keeps up or I might lose my mind.
And then I painted her nails.
