Dear Piper ~

I think 5 is the age when you really start to test your boundaries.  Don’t worry though, we have them set for you.  I understand that this is a normal phase of your growing up and that there will be many more times that you give those boundaries a push.  I just hope that these times don’t leave us with any lasting scars.  I know that you don’t understand that we say no because we care about you.  We have rules because we care about you.  I know I didn’t.  I probably didn’t really appreciate those things until now.

Now that I have you.

You are my adventurous spirit.  You leap and then you look.  You start to go and then you think about how or why.  You dive into the water without a worry about your abilities to swim.

You are my oldest and because of that you are blazing the trail for your sisters.  Just know, that if we need to, we will put the fire out.

The last few months, you look older to me.  I watch you sleep and wonder where the baby that cried out for us at night, went.  Every now and again, you make a face (something that you have a knack for) and I see a glimpse of the 16 month old that you once were.  You have been making silly, funny faces since the day you were born.

One final month to go before you are off to Kindergarten and a whole new set of adventures and I am standing at the doorway wondering where the last five years disappeared to.

Mama loves you, Magoo.

Love Mama.
