Even my poor dog

Is infertile.

If you think this is a joke, it’s not.

It’s true.

When we brought our cute bundle of puppy home in May, the big girls wanted her to have puppies of her own.  We briefly considered the idea… and by briefly, I mean I asked Craig and he said “No!”  (He really is the voice of reason sometimes.  I knew the idea was crazy but when the girls mentioned it and asked about it for days on end, I thought it might be a great experience for them.  But than Craig remembered that there would be actual puppies to think about when it was all said and done.  Ah well, we got over it.)

Included in Annie’s purchase (we bought her from Petland) was a “complimentary” spay.  So at the beginning of August, we figured it must be time to get that procedure done.  Craig booked the appointment and we talked to the girls about the tender care that Annie would need when she came home.  The girls asked if Annie would come home with puppies….

Annie had her surgery on Friday and Craig got a call from the Vet that everything went well.  Annie was fine but she found something she would like to talk about with us.  Turns out, our sweet Annie was missing one of her Uterine Horns (the Uterine Horn are the points where the uterus and fallopian tubes meat) and the Vet removed what she believed was Annie’s 2nd ovary.  It didn’t look like one and was disfigured.  So, she removed it and sent it away for testing.

When I picked up Annie this afternoon, they gave me this picture to help us better understand what the Vet had discovered.

Even though we are responsible pet owners and had planned on having her fixed, I felt kinda sad for the poor girl when this was discovered.  Crazy, I know.
