Dear Piper ~

Another year and another hockey season has begun.

For a second year in a row, you have worked your way into a position on the AA team.  I hear comments like, “Was there ever a doubt?”

There is always a doubt… and here is why.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

We talk about this all the time.  You can have the most talent but if you don’t work hard, you let your team down.  You can be a middle of the pack player, but work and dig and drive hard every second of every shift and lift your team up.

Your Dad and I both try to stay out of your head when it comes to hockey.  We try not to coach you or correct you or criticize you.  We try to congratulate you, pump you up and encourage you but the one thing that we will always say to you on your way to the rink is,

“Work hard.  Be the leader out there.  Show respect to the players and the coaches (on and off the ice).  No goofing off.  Show your passion, determination and drive.  Leave all you have on the ice.”

You, Magoo, will always be your own best chance at succeeding and I know that you have it in you.

So go out there and work hard.  You will have fun if you work hard.

Mama loves you, Magoo.

Love Mama.
