Traditions

One tradition that Craig and I have that has become particularly special for us is our annual Christmas News Letter and photo. This isn’t the photo we have choosen for this year, as that will be revealed once our letters and photos are sent out.

Our Christmas news letter is called “The Rumour Mill” then depending on the year we add Volume “insert number”. This year it is Volume 5. We have been doing one since we moved in together and this should actually be 6 or 7 but the first few were called Northern Experience. We re-named it to The Rumour Mill after we became engaged.

The letter is usually typed and the picture taken by mid November so we can have it ordered and put it envelopes ready to hit the post for December 1st. We have approximatly 50 people on our list. This number rises and falls with each year. We unfortunatley must admit that names are dropped off our list after a year or two of not receiving correspondence. Each year we see a new name or two added to our list. Friends we have made or old friends that we have caught up with.

Our annual letter and photo is an event that takes a great deal of thought and time. Our letter is a brief update on the previous year in our lives and is usually put into draft form in the fall. We take our time to remember all the details that we want to share. We enjoy updating our friends and family with what has been happening in our world and sharing with them a current photo. We enjoy receiving other people’s photos and updates around the holidays as well. Most of our friends have now married and have started families so it is nice to see their pictures and watch them grow through the years.

We also take the opportunity to have some fun poses and pictures that won’t make the cut for the Christmas Photo, but to be added to our album of memories. We enjoy the tradition that we have created and we are told that our friends and family look forward to reading it each year. That makes all the time and effort worth it.
