Dear Piper –

Happy seven month birthday, Sweet Pea! Look at how big you are getting. You now have two teeth and always look for the right opportunity to chomp on Mommy’s finger or shoulder or face. I have to tell you that it friggen hurts but I am so damn proud to see those pearly whites sprouting up!

Mommy thinks that you are so much fun to play with and we spend alot of our time on the floor doing just that.

Your first official word (phrase, consonant sound) is Da da da da da da da da da da da, and you say it alot. Most often when you are getting tired or mad at Mommy you start calling for Daddy and giving Mommy trouble. In fact, just the other day, you did this in the restaurant and really let Mommy have it. I look forward to the day that you realize that you are calling Daddy’s name.

We spent another week at Gramma and Grampa’s while Daddy went on a trip for work. You are always the Belle of the Ball when we are there. You spent an entire day with Auntie Michelle while Mommy and Gramma went shopping. It was Auntie who introduced you to car keys and you love them. And to think that Mommy thought she had at least 16 years before you started demanding her car keys.

We raked up some of Grampa’s leaves and let you play your little heart out. You really enjoyed the warm weather and the leaves. Molson kept trying to bury his bone in your pile of leaves. Silly dog.

You have started showing a preference for your Mommy. No one else will do. You could be perfectly fine in the arms of Gramma, Auntie, Grampa, Daddy (well you get the point, basically EVERYBODY) and when you see your Mommy you completely forget that you are okay… that is until you are safe and warm in your Mommy’s arms. I really must admit that this makes my heart grow 100 fold each and every time.

It is said that bonding occurs during the sensitive time in the first minutes and hours after birth. There was once a time when Mommy worried that we did not get the opportunity to bond and get to know eachother immediately after you were born. You, My Dearest Piper, have helped Mommy to let go of this worry. I have no doubt that you and I have bonded. I feel it everyday and when you reach your little arms out to me, my heart skips a beat.

You are the spitting image of your Daddy and I really wouldn’t have it any other way. I am thankful that I can look at you and be reminded of him and that when I look at him I am reminded of you. You both make Mommy’s life so full and we hope that someday you will have a sibling to spill all the love over.

Daddy always says that you might look like him but that you have Mommy’s personality. I think it is true. You certainly make sure that your voice is heard when it needs to be and we think that is a good thing. But we also know that there are many quiet times when you and I just sit there, rocking and talking and looking at eachother and I just want you to know that those moments mean so very much.

Mommy loves you, Sweetest Pea.

Love Mommy.

Okay, you totally got me crying first thing on a Sunday morning!

Piper is so beautiful (and so darn well-dressed!), and I love these pictures. You can frame ALL of them! She is just precious!

I love how you write to her. I love that she can hold on to these words her whole life through. And I love that when she becomes a mother herself someday, she will understand these words in a whole new way.
