Our first big scare

I have always tried to make a point of not
making a big deal out of Piper falling down
or hurting herself… and I do a pretty good
job of that.

On Sunday we celebrated my 32nd birthday
even though it wasn’t official until Tuesday).
A friend from work came over, we had a small
meal and a nice chocolate mousse cake.

After supper, Piper and Guinness were playing
around and goofing off… when Piper went and
sat on his bed (near a window) and he ran on
over and joined her. Well this clumsy, puppy
body checked her right into the window where
she cracked her eye on the ledge.

I heard it…. I saw it out of the corner of my eye
and this 31 week pregnant body moved faster than
I have ever moved before. Within seconds I swooped
her up in my arms and her eye was the size of a golf
ball.

We took her to the emergency room, because an eye
or head injury is not something I want to guess about.
Turns out she was just fine but we were told to watch
her for the next 24 hours and wake her every few
hours through the night.

Oh my pounding heart.

This is Piper when we got home about 1.5 hours after
it happened:

And this was Piper the next day:

I have never felt so scared…
and so thankful.

Her first shiner!

Scary stuff, my friend. I’m glad she’s okay.

Poor Piper! That shiner makes it look much worse than it ended up being. Glad she’s okay!
