First Day of School

As I brushed your hair yesterday for hockey, I asked you if you were excited to start school tomorrow.

I already knew the answer.  Of course you were.

I asked you what you thought you might learn this year.

“To read.”  Was your simple and, matter of fact, response.

Clothes were laid out and ready for “My Baby” and her first official day of school. There is nothing cliché about it…. the time with our children goes by so fast.  They grow up too soon.

It really does feel like it was only yesterday that I was laying out that pretty pink outfit you would wear home from the hospital.  Somehow, life has taken us on so many adventures in 5 short years.  A move, 2 glorious sisters arrived, trips, camping, laughing, loving.  Our life.

Today, you started school and your grip on my hand has loosened.  I’m happy.  I’m sad.  I’m excited.  I’m anxious.  Most of all, I’m proud and I am in love with you more than ever before.

I am scared.  It is in these next years that we could lose each other.  I won’t be your everything. Teachers will become a big influence in your life. An important influence.. And friends…. oh.my.word. Friends. It is so important that you choose the right ones.  They will play a big role in your life.  In many ways.  Some of which will break our hearts and some of which will make us stronger.  You will be blessed with beautiful friendships, so choose wisely.

Knock ’em dead.  Make some friends.  Stand tall.  I will be waiting to hear all about it.
