It’s called “Christmas Crack” for a reason

So be warned!

I’m not going to lie, this recipe has never appealed to me.  I never believed that I could turn ordinary, everyday, saltine crackers into a Christmas treat but…. I was wrong.  Not only does it taste really good, it’s super easy to make and fast!

Just be warned that you will have a hard time putting them away after having one piece.  All you need is:

1 sleeve of saltine crackers

1 Cup of salted butter

3/4 Cup of brown sugar

1 package of chocolate chips

nuts (optional)

I put tinfoil or parchment paper on my bakers pan with a wee bit of spray cooking oil.  Lay the crackers out in a single layer.  Melt the butter and brown sugar and bring to a boil.  Boil for approximately 5 minutes and stir constantly with a whisk.

Pour evenly over the crackers.  Bake in the oven at 450(f) for about 5 minutes.  Remove from the oven.

Sprinkle the chocolate chips over top.  When they are melted enough, spread the chocolate out evenly over the toffee mixture.  If you want add your nuts over the chocolate.  Let set.  If the weather is cold enough where you live (like it is here in the Great White North!) set it out on your porch, deck or in your garage like I do.  Once it has had a chance to harden, break into pieces.

And enjoy!
