Ringing in the New Year

The Rumour Mill style… or something like that.

Craig and I were all set to take in the Winnipeg Jets game and then head off to a house party with no kids! Our babysitter was booked and it would be the first New Year’s Eve in years that we were actually going out. I even thought that I might participate in the count down this year and kiss Craig at midnight instead of in the morning when we wake up.

It wasn’t meant to be.

Just after Christmas, the girls all came down with colds and flu.  It takes one out at a time.  So heading into New Years Eve, we had a house full of sick.  So we cancelled our New Years Eve plans and our babysitter.  Our plans changed and we stayed home.  I would rather be home cuddling my sick babies than celebrating a new year.  True.

Davilyn was so sick that just after 6:00 p.m., she stood up and said, “Mommy, I am going to bed now.”  And she did.  She fell asleep quickly.  My poor girl who wasn’t feeling well at all.  Quinn followed quickly behind her.  Quinn has really had a rough time with this cold/flu and was in bed by 6:30.  Piper had been feeling better but was still coughing.  I had told her she could stay up and watch the Jets game with us.  She was excited and put on her new Jersey (that she got for Christmas) and sat on the couch cheering.

She loves her Winnipeg Jets!

And her Daddy!

Then after the girls were all in bed, Craig and I whipped up a Cheese Fondue and rather enjoyed it.

And then we settled in to watch a new (to us) show on Netflix.  We started watching “Being Erica” and because we quickly became addicted to it, we rang in the New Year watching it.  It wasn’t the New Year’s Eve that we planned and I would much rather that my girls not be sick.  But, being home with all of us was just fine and rather nice.

Someday, we will go out again on New Years Eve.
