Dear Piper ~

I am late in getting this letter posted because, well…

BUSY.

We have been busy.

You went to your first sleep away camp, over three hours away from home.  You loved it.  We signed you up for the UMD Women’s Hockey Camp and you stayed with a new roommate in the dorms.  I was so excited for your experience and I was transported ten years into our future when you move out and go off to University on your own.  That day will arrive before we know it and before we are ready for it.

After your camp, we were off to the Cities for your second last AAA tournament with your Northern Storm team.  I cannot stress to enough that it is only your hard work that will benefit you.  No one else can do the work for you.  No one else can motivate you but you.  You need to decide that you will put 110% into every second you spend on that ice.

You have to be your own biggest cheerleader and your own biggest fan because you are your best chance… only chance at succeeding.  No one else can do that for you.  You can have people cheering in the bleachers and you can have all of our support but it is your work ethic that is going to take you places.  Your determination and your passion will get you where you want to go and your talent will help.

But don’t forget that

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

I will always cheer you on and support your passions but you have to do the hard work.  You don’t get what you wish for, Magoo…. you get what you work for.  Never forget that.

Mama loves you.

Love Mama.
