The recovery begins, The new lifestyle…

Well everyone, Craig has his new hip. He is doing great! This picture was taken right after they wheeled him up to his room. He has a spinal and some sleeping medication for the surgery. He woke up at the end as they were finishing up the staples. He does not recommend the spinal if you can avoid it… LOL.

He said once it kicked in, “it felt like my bum slid right off”.

The few days in the hospital were not fun for Craig at all. He didn’t get very much rest and the hospital food was not very appetizing. Since we are home now, he is eating and sleeping much better.

We celebrated Craig’s 34th birthday in the hospital. He looks good in this picture, doesn’t he?

He was not feeling well so just Mom and I had a piece of his cake. We then gave it to the nursing staff to enjoy. We will have to celebrate his birthday when his parents come out. He did get his present a bit early though. I got him a Sirius Satellite (radio) system for his car. Which he had wanted and really enjoys.

Craig was up and walking the day after surgery. Doing a great job at that. He is now just using crutches and weight bearing as he can tolerate it. It is amazing how quickly he was able to be up and walking afterwards. He does have many restrictions and needs some special equipment to move around and complete daily tasks. He also needs alot of my help right now too for cleaning up and stuff like that.

This is Craig the day we left the hospital. He is home now and resting. The first night home was a bit daunting for both of us. Realizing the magnitude of his surgery and his recovery and looking forward to his parents coming out to help. We got Craig bathed and that took us about an hour from start to finish. It will be a major lifestyle change for us for the next few months but we can manage through it together. I am very thankful that this has happened now and not in 5 months when we have a new born at home to care for. We are fortunate to have our health and know that Craig’s recovery will be a speedy one. We have over come obstacles before and we can do this one too. Once he has recovered, we have a pain free life to look forward too and a baby that will be able to enjoy playing with Daddy.

So happy for you that the surgery went well.
I hope you lay back, take it easy, take advantage of the forced recuperation time, be lazy and let people wait on you, you’ll be back on your feet and have to be doing stuff all too soon.
All our best wishes for a quick & enjoyable & complete recovery.

Thanks to all for your wishes and support. I am feeling much better now. My birthday goes down as one to remember – I started the day getting sick from the morphine. Anyhow, doing better and check back for Nicole’s updates.
