Dear Davilyn ~

You were scheduled to be born yesterday and were due to be born July 4, instead you arrived 5 weeks early. This is Mommy on the morning of your arrival.

You certainly had your own intended date of arrival in mind. On Monday May 26, Mommy started having pre-labour symptoms and spent a few hours at the hospital so the doctors could monitor my contractions. I also stopped working at the office early. For that entire week, I experienced contractions on and off. Then on May 30, Daddy and I decided to take in a movie while Gramma & Papa were here. After the movie Mommy noticed how extremely swollen she had become and was quite sure that it wouldn’t be too much longer before you arrived.

You had me experiencing contractions early in the morning on Saturday, only for them to stop. I spent all day Saturday in some discomfort. Then early in the morning on Sunday they started up again and I woke Daddy at 3:00 a.m. because they were very regular. By 4:00 a.m. they were regular and 5 minutes apart so we woke Gramma to lay with your big sister, Piper, and off to the hospital we went.

The doctor told us that he was sure we would be having our baby that day and sure enough you arrived at 11:27 a.m. It was such a wonderful experience for us and we were so excited to finally have you with us. You spent 8 days in the NICU to monitor your breathing and fluid on your lungs but you did wonderfully!

I am in awe that I now have two beautiful daughters! I don’t want to start a competition between you and your sister but I will compare some things about you both. You both weighed the same when you were born but Piper was 2 inches longer. You are such a good baby and so was Piper. Right now you wake every 3 – 4 hours to eat and sometimes want to visit during the wee hours of the morning.

Mommy enjoys our quiet time when everyone else in the house is asleep and it is just you and I. The first week after you came home, Daddy went to work, Piper went to daycare and we spent our time getting to know eachother. That was a very special opportunity for us and although brief, I will never forget it.

Bug, your Daddy and I hoped long and hard for a family and you are now here with us. There is no doubt that your heart just automatically grows and flows over with love when you have another child. It makes sure there is more than enough love to go around. Something that you may not fully understand until you have a family of your own, no matter how that family comes to you. We cannot wait to watch you grow and see the world through your eyes. I look forward to the next month when you start to coo and interact with us. I will be busy chasing after a toddler and caring for a newborn and my heart will be so full.

Mommy loves you Bugaboo.

Love Mommy.

such a beautiful letter. I’m sure Piper and Davilyn will have to have a huge box of kleenex next to them when they read all the letters.

your blog has inspired me to get my butt in gear and start my own.
