Shortly after Piper started playing hockey in the fall, we decided that we would experiment with our own outdoor rink this year. We have never made one before so this experiment was two fold. One being that we didn’t know if we could do it. Two being that we did not know if it would actually get used.
So, at the beginning of December, when the snow started falling, we started clearing a spot in our backyard for our very own rink. Then we waited for it to get cold enough and we let the water run. Okay, not quite. Craig spent a few cold evenings out back running water and flooding our rink.
Well… after all that hard work (Craig’s. Not mine). This is what we ended up with
I must say that he did a great job. There are a few things that we will do a bit different next year, including making it bigger, but how awesome is this! I know we aren’t the first family to do something like this but I’m still proud of the work that Craig put in.
Even Davilyn put on some skates and stepped out onto the ice for the Inaugural Skate. It was a cold day so she did not stay out long, but she was excited to get out there. “Look Mama, I’m skating!” I don’t know if she will be skating on her own this winter but at least she is showing some interest.
