October Around Here

Has been busy.  I always knew there would come a day when Hockey would consume our lives.  It does… but I wouldn’t change it.  Not a thing.  Except maybe the tireds.  We could use a lot less tired here.  Last year I wondered how I would foster Davilyns interests (or find them) in a family that was running to the arena 3 or more days a week. That all changed in October when she declared that she was not quite ready to be done with hockey.

And this happened.

And I was happy. Shocked but happy. Perhaps my new motto will be, “A family that plays hockey together, stays together.” But, it’s not. We would have supported her, no matter what her heart called her to.

October has been busy. We managed to sneak in our Annual Caramel Apple making adventure. We missed last year because of our move. I hadn’t even joined Craig and the girls in our new home yet. I was left behind to supervise the pack up of our old home and finish my work at my old firm.

They are such great helpers when we do these things and they look forward to it. Craig still does most of the work. He makes the caramel, I get all the decorations ready.

Halloween also happened here. Of course it did. The town put together a Trunk or Treat and it was awesome. They had it at the local library in the parking lot. Mostly businesses but not all. We arrived early, as soon as it kicked off at 4:00 pm and my girls got their fill. After Trunk or Treat, there was no reason for us to go door to door except for the obvious reasons:

1. It was not dark when we did Trunk or Treat.
2. We always go door to door.
3. We were going door to door with friends.

My girls have more candy than a Mama could ask for.

All year long, Quinn and Davilyn talked about being Elsa and Anna. And I kinda, really wanted that. Until we got closer to Halloween and I realized I couldn’t find a decent sized costume for either of them and every other sister duo in town (or the world) would be Elsa and Anna. I was still prepared to let them pick what they wanted.

This is what they choose:

Except for Davilyn, kinda. She choose to be a princess. Of course. She went to school a princess, came home from school a princess. As I was putting some red on Quinn’s face for her (perfectly picked) Devil costume, I casually asked Davilyn if she wanted to be a Vampire Princess. She had got a pair of pink fangs from her twin classmates and she was wearing them. She agreed and my favourite photo from the night was created. And that my friends, was October Around Here… in a nutshell.
